FAULKNER-CIOCCA FORD MERCURY HOSTING BLOOD DRIVE

LEHIGH VALLEY, PA - Faulkner-Ciocca Ford Mercury, 321 S. West End Boulevard, Quakertown, will be hosting a blood drive on Wednesday, September 9.  The blood drive is being sponsored in conjunction with Miller-Keystone Blood Center - exclusive blood supplier to 18 regional hospitals, including St. Luke's Quakertown Hospital - and will be held from 10am-1:30pm.

"Our regional hospitals require over 450 units of blood daily to care for their patients, which include premature infants, accident and burn victims, and cancer patients," explains Suzan Detwiler, Donor Resources Representative. "Therefore, it is vital that blood used today be replaced today to maintain a safe, stable and constant blood supply in our community.  Miller-Keystone Blood Center is grateful to Gregg Ciocca, owner of Faulkner-Ciocca Dealerships, for their commitment to our regional blood supply, and we urge all local residents to support a vital community service by donating at this blood drive."

In order to donate blood, individuals must be 17 years of age or older, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds and be feeling healthy; they must not have donated in the past eight weeks. All donors must also provide valid identification; ID must have the donor's name printed on it, as well as a photo and/or signature.

Darlene Dusza (left), Chapter leader of the Compassionate Friends Quakertown Chapter, reads about the award her chapter is giving to Gregg Ciocca (right) of the Faulkner-Ciocca car dealerships in appreciation for the compassion and support shown to employee Donna Hesse (center) after her daughter was killed in an automobile accident in 2006. Donna recommended her boss and co-workers for the thoughtful and caring way she was treated after her loss.

Faulkner-Ciocca is the first employer to receive the award in this area. There are 141 employers in 39 states being recognized by The Compassionate Friends for showing extra sensitivity to bereaved employees following the death of a child.

These employers provided additional time off without loss of benefits, allowed for flexible work schedules and assignments, gave leeway in job performance standards, fostered an environment of mutual support among coworkers, provided professional grief counseling, human resources support, or information regarding self-help bereavement organizations, and provided grieving employees with other services.

Compassionate Friends describes Gregg Ciocca as a "very caring employer and very supportive to the needs and feelings of a parent who has experienced the death of a child."

Compassionate Friends, a nonprofit organization, is a support group for families and friends who have lost loved ones, particularly children, too soon.

The Quakertown chapter meets on the second Tuesday of the month at St. Luke's Quakertown Hospital, at 7:30 p.m. in the Taylor Conference rooms. Call: 215-536-0173.
